Following the earthquake that devastated the city of Amatrice and the surrounding villages in 2016, there was an urgent need for an intervention that would provide a temporary meeting place in which all the social and catering activities interrupted by the earthquake could find a dedicated new home. The new Amatrice Piazza del Gusto, Tradizione e Solidarietà was created from a design by Stefano Boeri Architetti thanks to funds raised by Corriere della Sera and TgLa7 through the joint “Un aiuto subito.

Xiangyang Village of Jiading District is located at the most western edge of Shanghai. This village faces the borer of Kunshan City in Jiangsu Province. Because of this unique geographic location, Xiangyang Village consists of a variety of farmland and green area’s. Meanwhile the Jiangsu’s boundary, which is only one street away, is highly urbanized because it’s the closest area of Jiangsu near Shanghai.

The Pinch Library And Community Center / John Lin + Olivier Ottevaere

THE PINCH is a library and community center in Shuanghe Village, Yunnan Province, China. The project is part of a government led reconstruction effort after an earthquake in Sept 2012. The majority of village houses were destroyed, leaving the residents living in tents for up to one year. After the earthquake the government has sponsored new concrete and brick houses and a large central plaza. During the first site visit, the houses remained incomplete and the plaza was a large empty site.

Econef Children’s Center / Asante Architecture&Design + Lönnqvist & Vanamo Architects

Econef Children’s Center is a collaboration with Asante Architecture & Design, Lönnqvist & Vanamo Architects, Architects Without Borders Sweden, Engineers Without Borders Sweden and ECONEF, a Swedish-Tanzanian NGO that aims to improve the standard of living for orphans in the Arusha area.
ECONEF is an independent non-governmental organization located in Jua-kali, outside Arusha in northern Tanzania. With the help of private donations, ECONEF is able to offer security and everyday necessities for the 16children living at the Jua Kali orphanage. The new Children’s Center includes sleeping quarters and classrooms for 25 children.

The Martinborough Town Hall is the realization of a bold new vision that brings its multiple community groups together in a warm embrace.
Identity matters within any community project; to understand this, you must understand the people who live, work and engage in that environment. The overall inspiration for the community center came from the unique landscape of the Wairarapa region, the heroic town founders and the vibrant local community. The restoration and extension of the 106-year-old Martinborough Town Hall into a bustling, multi-purpose community hub is at the core of this project.

Fire Mesa Kitchen & Grill Pavilion / DesignBuildBLUFF

Fire Mesa is a product of community vision, collaboration, and improvisation in the rural desert town of Bluff, Utah. The community kitchen and grilling pavilion will serve as a hub for the few large events the community hosts each year including the annual hot air balloon festival, and it offers a new amenity for locals who already use the adjacent community center buildings for yoga, meetings, or picnics. The project involved community members from beginning design processes via public workshops and through the building process by welcoming visitors to see progress and participate in the construction.

Les Cordeliers Community Center and Nursery / Ateliers O-S architectes

It is about thirty kilometers from Paris, in the quiet town of Pontoise that ateliers o-s architectes just completed the Cordeliers community center and its nursery. Bordered by a vast park in the south and suburban housing in the north, the new ensemble engages in a dialogue with what has always been there. Architecture and context mutually highlight each other, the environment contributes to de ne the lines of the building, which in return opens up to the scenery.
