The restoration of the bowling club of Luzzara, a small town in the lowland of Reggio Emilia along the banks of the river Po, is the opportunity to upgrade a place with a strong symbolic value. Place of leisure and meeting, the hall has been an Arci office and a bowling center for the last forty years; it has been dragged to the present day without being modified.

Taihang Village Co-living Space / f.i.t.

Taihang Village is located in Qinba Mountains with pleasant weather and serene view. With the growth of tourism, the local government hopes to build a communal place for locals and tourists to share. The construction land is limited in the mountain area, the architect suggested to re-adapt the adjacent vernacular houses that are abandoned.

Naidi Community Hall / CAUKIN Studio

Naidi village, located on Vanua Levu in Fiji, had been without a community hall for 7 years, when their previous community hall fell into disrepair and was deemed unsafe for use. In the wake of this, the project came to fruition when a local NGO, the Naqaqa Giving Foundation approached CAUKIN Studio. Serving a village of 400 people and 75 households, the hall’s main function was to provide a space for the community to come together for meetings, celebrations, funerals and weddings. In Fijian culture, the community hall is the cultural and operational heart of a village.

Mogan Academy / gad·line+ studio

The project is located in the eastern foot of Mogan, Deqing City, and is born between five original valleys. The site retains the existing farmland texture and the long valley view corridor, which is characterized by the original rice field hometown, and creates the field flavor of crisscross paths in the valleys. This is also the location of agricultural museum, which is a window to enrich and integrate the historical and cultural connotation of farming.

Chen Xi Community Center / Group BE

Andrea del Castagno’s Last Supper, masterpiece of the Renaissance, has been created for more than 500 years. In this fresco, a huge white table cuts though the whole image horizontally, contracting against all the other colors in the fresco, with a strong modernity and abstractness. Jijia Village in Zhejiang Province, on the other side of the planet, has a stone paved square raised to hide the buildings behind.

Evang Luth Community Center Heilandskirche Unterhaching / goldbrunner + hrycyk + Hable Architekten

Particular attention was paid to protecting the valuable trees as much as possible and to keep the church the main factor of the ensemble. The new building surrounds the church in a respectful way and opens the new created patio to the existing trees. The courtyard, surrounded by church, community center und trees creates a communal space in the middle and opens to the west to invite you to enter.

Hongje Community Center / Simplex Architecture

Hongje-dong has a relatively large elderly population. In front of the existing houses, the elderly used to sit on the benches and spend some time together. The newly planned Hongje Community Center was intended to serve as a community space for these seniors, as well as a public facility for the local residents.

A makeover for the Albert Schweitzer Community Centre in Dammarie-les-Lys
The town of Dammarie-les-Lys (Seine-et-Marne) is organized around three main interlinking spaces: the Lys plain, the historic town center and the park surrounding the Abbey. The Albert Schweitzer community center is located in the heart of the Lys plain, in a neighborhood made up of several thousand housing units built in the 1970s and known, at the time, as an «urban center». Built at the foot of two of the highest tower blocks, in front of the 8th May 1945 square, the facility is the centerpiece of the neighborhood and plays a vital urban and landscaping rôle within it.

Hoehyeon Community Center / Yong Ju Lee Architecture

Hoehyeon Community is a local facility renovated from the wooden house built in 1935 during the Japanese colonial period, which is a part of Urban Renewal Projects by Seoul Metropolitan Government. This type of old Japanese house so-called enemy’s house is assigned as architectural asset in Korea. These buildings have architectural and historic values, but also provoke controversy. People now understand them as Negative Heritage to prove Japanese Imperialism. Seoul government expects presenting a new model of renovating old Japanese house from this project.
