Kawamichiya Kosho-An Restaurant / td-Atelier + ENDO SHOJIRO DESIGN

“KAWAMICHIYA” is a soba restaurant in Kyoto with a history of over 300 years. This is the new store of “KAWAMICHIYA KOHSHO-AN”, which is “KAWAMICHIYA”‘s become a goodwill partner. We renovated a 110-year-old townhouse in downtown Kyoto. Originally it looked like a townhouse with an elaborate design, but various modifications were made for living, and those designs were hidden or destroyed. Therefore, we tried to restore the elements of the townhouse, such as hidden or lost design windows and alcoves and add new geometry to them to revive them as a new store.

Miyagawa Angel Parlor / ROOVICE

エンゼル (Angel) was a popular tuna restaurant in Misaki, south end of the Kanagawa Prefecture. It was known and appreciated by the whole community, thanks to its location next to the harbour which provided a daily supply of fresh quality fish and seafood products. It wasn’t a mere spot where to eat it was the gathering place around which the locals of every generation spent their time and created the foundations for the village to build its identity. Unfortunately, though, the restaurant closed several years ago, leaving a void in the town that was seeking a replacement.

São Pedro Restaurant / VAGA

Located inside the FAMA Museum, in Itu – São Paulo, the project for the São Pedro Kitchen, developed by the VAGA Architecture office, sought to create a welcoming space for a restaurant that could also be used as an event area. The architects had as a starting point the creation of an environment with a contemporary language, adapting the existing structures for a new proposed use, establishing a respectful dialogue with the heritage, and with the works of art scattered throughout the 25,000 m² complex occupied by the FAMA Museum.
