Five architecture and design events in September from Dezeen Events Guide

London Design Festival, Tallinn Architecture Biennale and Arquiteturas Film Festival are among the architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this month.

Other events taking place in September include the two European design festivals Stockholm Design Week and Paris Design Week, which take place in the Swedish and French capital cities respectively.

Stockholm Design Week
5 to 11 September, Sweden

Stockholm hosts its 2022 design week in September as a one-off autumn event, having been postponed for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stockholm Design Week invites both design professionals and enthusiasts to its programme of showrooms, exhibitions, open studios, talks and fringe events.

The festival hub is located at the department store NK, where the Moving Forward exhibition is hosted. The exhibition showcases new and established brands and is curated by stylists Kråkvik & D’Orazio.

Stockholm Design Week traditionally takes place during February and will do so in 2023 alongside the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair.

This September edition marks the 20th design week held in Stockholm and will include a preview of the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair.

Events take place at various locations across and around Stockholm.

Tallinn Architecture Biennale
7 September to 20 November, Estonia

The sixth edition of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale returns with a gala, symposium, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and open studios.

While the event’s opening week takes place from 7 to 11 September, the duration of the festival continues until 20 November.

This year’s theme is titled Edible; Or, The Architecture of Metabolism and explores local food production, self-reliance and the reuse of waste.

Tallinn Architecture Biennale aims to empower architects, designers and planners to follow circular operations in terms of production and decomposition.

The festival is curated by architects Lydia Kallipoliti and Areti Markopoulou in collaboration with co-curator and architect Ivan Sergejev.

Paris Design Week
8 to 17 September, France

Paris Design Week is a festival that spans various areas in France’s capital city, including Opéra, Concorde and Étoile, Rive Gauche, and Palais-Royal, Marais and Bastille.

The biannual design and interiors trade show Maison&Objet is the largest event during the festival, showcasing more than 3,000 brands.

While Maison&Object runs for four days from 8 to 12 September, Paris Design Week continues until 17 September.

Paris Design Week invites designers, architects, decorators, fashion designers and chefs to the 200 participating sites.

The festival includes a programme of workshops, open houses, tours, discussions and parties.

London Design Festival
17 to 25 September, UK

London Design Festival returns to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The 2022 edition features a programme of more than 300 events across 12 design districts, including exhibitions, talks, workshops and open studios.

One of the festival’s largest events is the trade fair Design London, which takes place at Magazine London.

London Design Festival’s hub for the year is the V&A Museum in the Brompton Design District. The venue hosts installations, workshops and talks.

Previous years’ events have seen 600,000 visitors attend from more than 75 countries.

Events take place at various locations across London.

Arquiteturas Film Festival
27 September to 1 October, Portugal

This year’s Arquiteturas Film Festival is the ninth edition, taking place at various locations across Porto, Portugal.

The architecture film festival is following the theme of ​​Slow Down! which focuses on the reduction of architecture.

The festival is made up of four programmes: the Official Programme, the Guest Institution Programme, the Competition Programme and the Experimental Programme.

Arquiteturas Film Festival explores how we can see, hear and debate social and environmental practices.

This is the first year the festival takes place in Porto, with all eight previous events happening in Lisbon.
