Entrance Façade of the Baroque Museum of Catalonia / David Closes

Sometimes surprising coincidences might occur. Between 2003 and 2011 we conducted an architectural intervention on Sant Francesc Convent, in Santpedor, to transform it into an auditorium. The project was carried out on a former convent built in the 18th century where only the church was remaining; the conventual wings and cloister had disappeared. Five years later, located in the Catalan city of Manresa, we were commissioned to develop an inverse assignment from the previous one: an intervention on the Old Saint Ignatius College, a former religious complex based on a convent structure whose baroque church was demolished; only the wings of the old Jesuit college placed around a cloister remained. In both cases, the architectonical intervention was done on buildings amputated of one of its two essential elements; in the present project, the old baroque church.

Daya Bay Nuclear Power Science and Technology Museum / E+UV Architecture + Huayi Design

Historic Memory
The Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant is where large-scale commercial nuclear power generation began in China. Over the past forty years, six nuclear power units have been built, progressing from technology introduction to independent development. This has led to the creation of a significant domestic nuclear power milestone. The Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant was constructed in the 1980s on top of the granite geological bedrock at Ma Ling Kok. The construction involved cutting mountains, digging rocks, and reclaiming land. The project is situated on one of the pits left by the quarrying. The mountainous landscape bears witness to the historical development of the nuclear power base, which has been restored and remodeled to create the Daya Bay Nuclear Science and Technology Museum. The landforms serve as a reminder of the changes that have taken place over time.

By dismantling a portion of the building beneath the ski jump and introducing a new extension and entrance, the museum now boasts enhanced accessibility and a distinct identity of its own.

Project Background. Xi’an, a renowned historical city of thirteen dynasties, boasts rich cultural resources. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda (Jianfu Temple Pagoda), which was built in Anrenfang of Chang’an City in the early Tang Dynasty, is now located within Xi’an Museum. Due to its special geographical location and history of humanity, it has been designated as the historical and cultural area of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, bearing witness to the city’s long development. In December 2018, Xi’an launched the project called “Comprehensive Renovation of Small Wild Goose Pagoda Historical and Cultural Area”, which aims to establish a museum and tourist service center in the Anrenfang heritage site, covering an area of approximately 12,600 square meters. In the overall planning of historic preservation, the design starts from how to deal with the relationship between architecture, historical sites, and the city, to better integrate architecture with urban life, and to recreate the historical features.

Offering an iconic destination to residents of the city and visitors alike, the Sorol Museum is part of the Gyo-Dong 7 Public Park, located in the center of Gangneung, one of the most scenic regions in Korea with a dramatic sea and mountain backdrop. The steep and undulating topography provides a natural hilltop site for the building. Outdoor spaces, gardens, forests, walking, and hiking paths are planned throughout the park, preserving and enhancing the existing landscape. This parkscape connects to the art center grounds, with the ground floor of the building sitting on a naturally high plateau (elevation of +62.0m above sea level) with panoramic views.

Shanghai IAG Art Museum / BE Design

In CPARK, which is located in the Haixu Park in the core city of Changning District, we have designed a “exquisite white paper” for IAG. The texture of the paper is designed to provide a low -key, exquisite, open basic platform for the display in the future space, activities and events. The overall tone of the space is based on simple white, and the dynamic line pursues simple and clear. However, in the subtleties, such as paving, armrests, smallpox and other areas, it can interpret the detailed granular expression that fits the artistic temperament of the IAG pioneer.
