OrigaMI Apartment / A I M

September 10, 2024 Anna Dumitru 0

In the heart of Milan, the renovation project of an apartment represents a balance between architectural tradition and contemporary living. In fact, the intervention aimed to enhance the historical elements of the architectural envelope, such as wooden and plaster frames, the original marble fireplace, and the typical symmetries of historic Milanese architecture; while at the same time integrating a contemporary and functional design into the interiors inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese design. This offers a relaxing and serene environment, characterized by clean lines through the use of ephemeral and light partitions, almost reminiscent of screens, and natural and pure materials with a palette of neutral and warm colors, with particular attention to the tactile qualities of natural materials and a passion for craftsmanship. This contrast between traditional containers and modern content creates a fascinating dialogue, where history and modernism coexist harmoniously.

Embedded in the sincerity of Møn, a transformational project emerges, blending with the island’s architectural heritage characterized by admiration for the necessary. It is shaped by the profound artistic legacy of the founders, and the resources at hand, and informed by the functionality of industrial structures, much like the numerous barns and farms around the exhibition space. By restoring three existing buildings and adding two more, a substantial place with modest yet rugged resources is developed.

The Turbinenhaus is located in the Emmenhof area in Derendingen, directly related to the historical industrial buildings of the former spinning mill to the east and the hydroelectric power plant to the south. It forms the threshold to nature in the west and, together with the residential building in the north, defines the central spinning mill square. The concept and name are derived from the turbine—a machine rotating around a central axis, all-encompassing and in motion.

In Bordeaux, the project by BPM Architects is a rehabilitation and elevation initiative. For its new premises, BPM Architects envisioned a workspace, a research, and a reflection area. The agency designed the building’s architecture, planned the interior layout, and oversaw the construction of this project, which embodies its expertise. The decision was made to densify and renovate on an urban scale by elevating the existing building.

La Fontaine Kindergarden / ALTA

Context – In Tours, the Jean de la Fontaine school has undergone a complete makeover at the hands of the ALTA agency. Initiated by the municipality at the end of 2020, the call for tenders aimed at the demolition and reconstruction of this establishment built in the 1960s. In the northeast of the city, in a rapidly changing neighborhood, the existing school was part of a complex urban fabric characterized by a great heterogeneity of scales and building types. In addition to making the establishment and its surroundings more legible, ALTA’s project is a true homage to the architectural and natural heritage of the Loire region. The territory of Tours, traversed by the Loire and Cher rivers, is indeed marked by a strong vegetal presence: wooded hillsides, parks and landscaped areas, private and family gardens… This heritage, along with the layouts of the green and blue networks, forms one of the common threads that led the architects throughout this requalification project. Initiated in December 2022, the construction work was completed in April 2024 with the renovation of the existing gymnasium. In collaboration with the FAAR Paysage, landscapers, and new outdoor spaces were designed, combining ecological management and biodiversity enhancement with the intended outdoor uses for the schoolchildren.
