In the interior of São Paulo, the project named Casa Silvestre has become the summer residence of a family consisting of a couple and two daughters. The team at Conrado Ceravalo’s office chose to position the house at the front of the plot to capture the morning natural light and create a welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, they blocked the afternoon sun, which is quite intense.

The blue door, with its vibrant hue, symbolizes hope and transformation. This choice is not merely aesthetic; it alludes to the idea of new beginnings and welcome, an invitation to what is good. With that in mind, we present the renovation proposal for a house with an exposed brick structure, where we aim to modernize the space while preserving its original features. The intervention was minimal, respecting the identity of the building. We opted for white paint, which brightened the space and highlighted the texture of the bricks, giving it a contemporary touch.

Estrela Apartment, Lisbon / Filipe Fonseca Costa

At the back of the backyard of a typical late 19th century caged building located near the Estrela Basilica, there is a chalet nestled between the backyard and the canopies of a neighboring garden. The time and construction system are the same as the building that serves as an entrance, but not the scale. The cottage could have been the back annexe, but instead it had become the hidden gem within the tree-lined block.

Those who come from the sea hardly notice the volume of the Patios House at the foot of a verdant mountain. The thin slab that divides the green from the sand shelters an almost invisible house, dissolved in the landscape.

The main challenge of this project was to create a strong connection between internal and external spaces, typical of studio mk27 project in tropical climate, but in this case, in Whistler, a ski station in Canada where winters are harsh.

Located on the northern coast of São Paulo, this vacation residence is situated just a few meters from the sea, yet remains hidden from those enjoying the waves or the white sands of the beach. Completely surrounded by native coastal vegetation, the building blends into its lush surroundings. Designed as a neutral volume, with its translucent faces facing the neighboring lots, the layout prioritizes a frontal view of the beach through large glass openings, so as to incorporate in its reflections, as well as in its internal spaces, the hues of this biome. The translucency is ensured by the external cladding, made up of polycarbonate cellular panels that simultaneously filter light, sound, and heat.

August 26, 2024 Susanna Moreira 0

A region’s identity is deeply tied to its community spaces. These spaces—whether parks, public squares, or community centers—reflect their users’ culture, history, and values. They don’t just preserve regional identity; they actively shape how communities engage with their environment, fostering a dynamic relationship between place and people. Community spaces are more than just physical locations; they are vital social hubs that foster engagement, cultural expression, and a sense of belonging. These spaces symbolize a shared identity and purpose.
